Atoms For Peace

Atoms For Peace, questo il nome della nuova band di Thom Yorke (Radiohead) che lo stesso artista ha annunciato via Twitter qualche settimana fa. La band è una vera e propria all star band formata da Flea dei Red Hot Chili Peppers (basso), Nigel Godrich (produttore dei Radiohead), Mauro Refosco (Forro in the Dark) e da Joey Waronker (batterista) già con REM, Beck e Smashing Pumpkins.

Naturalmente questo non vuol dire che i Radiohead si sono sciolti o cose simili (solo un paio di mesi fa si è parlato infatti di un loro ritorno in studio per il seguito di In Rainbows) ma semplicemente che Thom vuole comunque portare avanti, in parallelo, quel progetto nato nel 2006 con The Eraser, il suo (bellissimo) album solista.

Gli Atoms For Peace hanno appena iniziato un mini tour negli USA che li vedrà impegnati nel mese di aprile (New York,  Chicago, Boston, Santa Barbara le tappe) fino ad arrivare al Coachella Festival dove si esibiranno il 18 dello stesso mese. I pezzi suonati sono gli stessi presenti in The Eraser con l'aggiunta di alcuni inediti scritti in questi anni da Thom Yorke e mai pubblicati.

Harry Patch (In Memory Of)

E' disponibile da oggi il download di un nuovo brano dei Radiohead.
La traccia, dal titolo "Harry Patch (In Memory Of)" è scaricabile dal sito della band e il download è a pagamento al prezzo di 1€. Tutto il ricavato sarà devoluto in beneficenza alla British Legion.

Harry Patch , per chi non lo sapesse, è morto pochi giorni fa, e detiene il record per essere l'uomo più longevo al mondo (111 anni!). Thom Yorke ebbe modo di ascoltarlo in una intervista radiofonica e a quanto pare le sue parole hanno avuto un forte impatto sul cantante.

Recently the last remaining UK veteran of the 1st world war Harry Patch died at the age of 111.
I had heard a very emotional interview with him a few years ago on the Today program on Radio4.
The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me.
It became the inspiration for a song that we happened to record a few weeks before his death.
It was done live in an abbey. The strings were arranged by Jonny.
I very much hope the song does justice to his memory as the last survivor.

It would be very easy for our generation to forget the true horror of war, without the likes of Harry to remind us.
I hope we do not forget.

As Harry himself said
"Irrespective of the uniforms we wore, we were all victims".

This morning the Today program played the song for the first time and now it is available to download from our website.

The proceeds of this song will go to the British Legion.

Oggi Thomas Edward Yorke compie 40 anni.

Questa qui sopra è la sua foto che mi porto dietro da molti anni, di città in città, di casa in casa.
Per chi ancora non lo sapesse (sono rimasti in pochi), Thom è semplicemente colui che è riuscito a convertire in musica il mio essere.

Per questo motivo non posso fare altro che chiedergli di continuare così, come ha sempre fatto, cantando come solo lui sa fare, continuando a lottare per un mondo più pulito, affinchè la terra non diventi una grossa ciminiera, continuando a stravolgere tutti i canoni sonori, riuscendo a sorprenderci ogni volta, mostrando i denti a tutti coloro che nel mondo cercano di dettare le proprie regole fregandosene del prossimo.

Continua così Thom, non fermarti!
